SPRINGWATER - In January 2018 the Collingwood and Huronia West Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began investigating a series of frauds reported by various victims throughout the community.

A Springwater Township resident falsely representing herself as a paralegal accepted money without providing the services agreed upon. Charges were laid in regards to this investigation and are currently before the courts.

In 2019 The Huronia West OPP Criminal Investigation Unit responded to further complaints involving the same woman posing as a paralegal and/or a lawyer and was offering various legal services.

The woman allegedly took payment from the victims and did not provide the services negotiated. Police verified through investigation and consultation with the Law Society of Ontario that the female was not licenced to practice law as a paralegal or a lawyer.

Kira MacNicol, 39-years-old, of Springwater Township has been arrested and further charged with:

  • 16 counts of fraud under $5000
  • One count of fraud over $5000
  • Four counts of fail to comply with recognizance

MacNicol has been held for a bail hearing on July 10, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice in the City of Barrie.
