Single-car crash in Arran-Elderslie leads to multiple charges

Two accused were also driving a stolen vehicle, police say

The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid several criminal charges and recovered stolen property following a motor vehicle collision on Bruce Road 40.

On Oct. 15, 2022, at 10:28 a.m., officers from the South Bruce OPP were called to a single-car motor vehicle collision on Bruce Road 40 in the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie.

Police arrived on the scene and were informed by members of the public that both occupants of the motor vehicle had fled the scene. The motor vehicle had previously been reported stolen.

The OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit, alongside the South Bruce OPP and Grey Bruce OPP, commenced a search, and by 2:16 p.m., g

The South Bruce OPP have charged a 32-year-old from Hanover with the following offences:

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Identity theft - obtaining or possessing another person's identity information

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton at a later date.

The South Bruce OPP have also charged a 29-year-old from Arran-Elderslie with the following offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Theft over $5,000

The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton.
