Police arrest suspect connected to two armed robberies of Collingwood businesses

The robberies took place earlier this year, and police have arrested a 39-year-old Collingwood man as part of the investigation

Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP have arrested a 39-year-old Collingwood man as part of their investigation into two armed robberies that took place earlier this year. 

"As a result of an extensive and very detailed investigation by detectives of the crime unit, the male has now been arrested and charged," states a news release issued this afternoon by Collingwood OPP. "A warrant was executed at a residence in Collingwood, where an imitation pistol and a shotgun with ammunition was seized." 

Police report they also seized methamphetamine as part of the warrant execution. 

Police report they have arrested Justin Muenz and charged him with: 

  • two counts of robbery with a weapon,
  • disguise with intent,
  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, 
  • two counts of carrying a concealed weapon,
  • using an imitation firearm while committing an offence,
  • possession of an imitation weapon for dangerous purpose, 
  • unauthorized possession of a firearm, and 
  • knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm. 

He has not faced those charges in court yet. His bail hearing was scheduled for today. 

Collingwood OPP reported a robbery on Feb. 22 around 7 p.m. at the Canco Gas Station on Hume Street. Police later reported a second robbery on March 1 around 6:30 p.m. at an Ontario Street business. 

In both cases, a lone male suspect entered the business, brandished a weapon and demanded cash. At both businesses, the clerk complied and the suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
