Over the past weekend, members of the Collingwood and Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two more drivers for impaired operation offences.

At about 10:50 p.m. on Dec. 16, officers were conducting RIDE spot checks on Mountain Road and Kell's Crescent in Collingwood when an officer observed a driver with open alcohol in his vehicle and commenced an investigation of the driver. As a result of that investigation, a 28-year-old male from Collingwood has been released on an appearance notice, charged with the following offences:

  • Refusal to provide a breath sample
  • Driving a motor vehicle with open container of alcohol

Early morning Dec. 17, an officer observed a vehicle being driven on Second Street in Collingwood and conducted a traffic stop. The officer determined that the female driver had been drinking alcohol and commenced an impaired driving investigation. The driver was arrested and transported to the OPP detachment to complete the investigation. As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old female from Collingwood has been released on an appearance notice, charged with impaired operation (80 plus).

Both accused were served a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension, and their vehicles were impounded for seven days. They are all scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood at a future date.

Police remind the public that impaired driving puts our communities at risk, and our officers are actively looking for drivers who drive while impaired, not just during the holidays but all year long. If you plan on consuming drugs or alcohol, please plan ahead and have a designated driver, call a friend, take a taxi or arrange for another form of transportation to get you home safely. If you suspect someone of driving while impaired, call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or dial 911 to report it.
