Local police have arrested a person in connection with a string of thefts from vehicles around 3 a.m. this morning in Collingwood's tree street neighbourhood.

A Fourth Street resident called police at 3:30 a.m. to report a stolen wallet and noted there was a single set of footprints that appeared to lead to every vehicle in driveways for several blocks along Fourth Street West. Police arrested the suspect in the area of Hickory and Fifth Streets.

An officer investigating the area on foot said he had visited approximately 50 homes where the suspect entered or tried to enter vehicles parked in driveways.

Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP said the investigation is ongoing, but the list of streets where officers found evidence of vehicles entered or attempts made to enter them includes: Hickory, Fifth, Beech, Maple, Pine, Oak, and Fourth Streets.

The suspect is being held for a bail hearing in Barrie this morning.

If you discover your vehicle was entered and something was taken, report the theft to the Collingwood Blue Mountains OPP via the non-emergency line at 705-445-4321.
