MEAFORD, ON - On May 3, 2020, at 4:02 p.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a missing person. The 25-year-old male was last seen on May 2, 2020, at 9 p.m. leaving the family residence at Trowbridge Street West in Meaford on his BMX bicycle.

Human remains, located on May 6th, have been identified as that of the missing male, Emerson Sprung, from Meaford. The OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) has now determined the death to be the result of homicide.

OPP have arrested and charged Matthew McQuarrie, 34 years old from Meaford, with first-degree murder, section 235(1) Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused has been remanded in custody and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 14, 2020.
