Victim of purse-snatching succumbs to injuries; Man charged

Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have now arrested a male in relation to an incident where a female pedestrian was injured in Collingwood.

On Saturday Sept. 14 2019 shortly after 4:00 p.m. OPP officers were called to attend to Market Lane near Market Street in the Town of Collingwood for reports of an injured 86 year-old female. Investigation has found that the female victim was walking on Market Lane when she was knocked to the ground by an unknown suspect(s) who then proceeded to steal the victim's purse and left the area prior to ambulance or police arrival.

The victim was subsequently transported to an area hospital with life altering injuries and has since died at hospital. She has been identified as Marion Fenwick, 86 years-old, from Collingwood. A post mortem is scheduled to take place at the Provincial Forensic Pathology Unit at the Forensic Services and Coroners Complex in Toronto.

OPP have now charged Caleb Burgler, 30 years-old, from Collingwood. He is charged with robbery with violence and aggravated assault and is being held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.

The investigation is being conducted by the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP Crime Unit with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) under the direction of Detective Inspector Chris Landry of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

OPP investigators are also looking to speak to the driver of a black Chevrolet 4-door pickup truck that was parked on Market Lane shortly before the incident took place. (See attached photos). The driver is asked to call Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP detectives at 705-445-4321.

As well OPP are looking to identify a male on a bicycle that was in the area when the incident took place (See attached photo). He is asked to call the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP detectives at 705-445-4321.
