Man arrested after trying to drive out of ditch, police say he was 2.5 times over legal alcohol limit

GREY HIGHLANDS - On Dec. 13, 2019 at 5:45 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a vehicle in the ditch at Grey Road 13 north of Eugenia, Grey Highlands.

OPP officers attended the scene and arrested the driver for operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol. Prior to police arrival the driver was making attempts to drive their vehicle out of the ditch area.

The driver was transported to Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Meaford for a breath test. The results of the breath test were more than two and half times the legal limit.

John Delaney, 56 years old from Grey Highlands has been charged with operation while impaired with alcohol and drugs, section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada and operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus, section 320.14(1)(b) CC.

The accused was released on a promise to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on Jan. 2, 2020.
