Police say a Collingwood man blew five times over the legal limit for blood alcohol content after officers responded to a two-vehicle collision earlier today.
Collingwood and Blue Mountains Detachment OPP said they arrested the man and laid numerous charges.
Police say a witness called in the two-vehicle crash. Officers who responded detected a strong odour of alcohol from the breath of one driver, according to the OPP.
The driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for a breath test which determined his blood alcohol concentration to be more than five times above the legal limit, the OPP said in a news release.
Police said no one was injured in the crash.
A 38-year-old male from Collingwood was charged with:
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to the Criminal Code
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs contrary to the Criminal Code
- Fail to surrender insurance card contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
- Fail to surrender licence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
- Fail to yield to traffic on through highway contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
The accused has been served a 90-day driver's licence suspension and the vehicle has been impounded for seven days, the OPP said.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on March 19.
