The Huronia West detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is proud to acknowledge Auxiliary Sgt. Norm Luke for his ongoing dedication and commitment to the Huronia West OPP communities.

Earlier this week, Norm was presented an honorary medal and letter of recognition.

Originally from Timmins, Ont., Norm was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces as a reservist with the Algonquin Regiment. During this time and prior to becoming an auxiliary officer Norm was also a member of the OPP Pipe Band. In the late 1990s, Norm moved to Mississauga to accept a job with the GO Transit Service. While still a member of the OPP Pipe Band, Norm was encouraged to apply to the OPP Auxiliary program. In October 2002, Norm graduated and joined the Port Credit Auxiliary Unit. He moved to the Barrie area in 2003 and in 2005 he transferred to Huronia West OPP, where he has generously served the community since. In 2013, he was promoted as our auxiliary unit supervisor.

In July 2021, Norm and his family were left homeless after a tornado had passed through Barrie. This tragedy did not prevent Norm from continuing with his volunteer work. He continued his administrative duties during this extremely stressful time for him and his family and resumed his full duties in the fall of 2022.

Norm, thank you for your ongoing commitment. Congratulations on your 20 years of service.
