Ontario Provincial Police aren’t taking the long weekend off.

In fact, according to preliminary numbers, officers from the Huronia West Detachment laid 97 charges on Friday alone.

“Some of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) charges included 9 suspended drivers, 6 unnecessary noise, 6 improper mufflers and 4 drive-no licence,” police said in a news release. “Additionally, multiple charges were laid under the Liquor Licence and Control Act.”

And one driver was charged with impaired operation by drug.

Expect a heightened police presence all weekend long in Wasaga Beach, Springwater and Clearview, along with the surrounding areas that the OPP patrols.

“The OPP would like to also remind anyone that chooses to drive dangerously or commit criminal acts, that we will continue to investigate after this weekend,” police added. “They may still face charges following this weekend.”

Anyone wanting to report a crime can call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
