Former music teacher charged in historical sexual assault investigation

CLEARVIEW TOWNSHIP - Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Huronia West Crime Unit with the assistance of detachment members have arrested and charged a male as a result of a historical sexual assault investigation.

The investigation began after police received complaints about historical sexual assaults against young persons which took place in the late 1970s. These incidents occurred at a private residence in Clearview Township when the victims were teenagers.

John Bain, 68 years old of Toronto, is facing three counts of gross indecency, three counts of indecent assault as well as one count of sexual assault. He was arrested on Aug. 2, 2018 and held for bail court on that date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.

Police believe there may be additional victims as the accused was employed as a music teacher from 1976 to 2006 in Clearview Township.
