Collingwood/Blue Mountains OPP laid 34 charges against people on Beaver River over the weekend.

Constable Martin Hachey confirmed a large percentage of those charged were riding tubes and floatation devices (non-motorized) down the river, some with alcohol.

"Which obviously creates a problem," noted Hachey.

A majority of the 34 charges laid were liquor licence act violations, including three charges for underage drinking.

There were also two people on kayaks charged for not having a personal floatation device or lifejacket.

The weekend patrol was a joint effort with the Ministry of Natural Resources, which loaned police the use of their 'stump jumper' motorized boat for shallow water.
