Driver clocked 77 km/h over limit arrested for drunk driving

Police said the vehicle was travelling 157 km/h on County Road 124 near Duntroon

Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have arrested and charged an impaired driver after the vehicle they were driving registered 77 kilometres per hour over the speed limit.

On Aug. 24, 2022, at 11:25 p.m., officers were travelling along County Road 124 near Duntroon when their radar registered an oncoming vehicle at a speed of 157 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone. Police stopped this vehicle and arrested one individual, who was subsequently transported to the Huronia West Detachment for further investigation.

As a result, a 25-year-old from Singhampton, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released and is set to appear on Sept. 27, 2022, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood.

The OPP Huronia West Detachment would like to encourage motorists to report potential impaired drivers. Motorists can call 911, or *OPP (*677) on their mobile device and be put in contact with an emergency dispatcher. Using a mobile device to report a potential impaired driver will not result in a charge for using a hand-held communication device.
