Deceased in Markham double shooting had ties to Collingwood

39-year-old Wai Loon (Allen) Kong was killed in the shooting at a restaurant on Thursday and police have released images of the man they think killed him
Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit have identified the victim and are releasing suspect images following a double shooting in the City of Markham.

On Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019, shortly after 11 p.m., York Regional Police responded to a restaurant located at 5460 Highway 7 East, after several calls came in reporting sounds of gunshots.

When officers arrived, they located a man who was deceased at the scene and a woman who was suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to hospital and is now in stable condition.

The deceased victim has been identified as 39-year-old Wai Loon (Allen) Kong with connections to both the City of Markham and the Town of Collingwood.

The suspect fled from the scene on a motorcycle. Investigators have obtained images of the suspect and the motorcycle involved.

Suspect Description:

  • Wearing a motorcycle helmet, a dark green jacket, dark pants and a backpack 

Suspect Vehicle is Described as:

  • A black and white sports bike with blue or purple coloured headlights

Any witnesses that may have seen or heard anything in the area are asked to contact police. Investigators are also appealing to any nearby businesses or residences that may have video surveillance, or any drivers who may have dashcam footage to please come forward.
