Collision investigation results in impaired charges

Vehicle was impounded for seven days and his drivers licence was suspended 90 days

On Nov. 19, 2018 at approximately 4:21 p.m., a member of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged a male driver after investigating a collision at the intersection of River Road West and Westbury Road.

During the investigation, a standardized field sobriety test was completed with one of the drivers and at the conclusion he was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He was transported to the Huronia West Detachment for breath tests and two suitable samples of breath were provided, registering 190 and 170 mg/100mL blood. The vehicle was impounded for seven days and his drivers licence was suspended 90 days.

Twenty-two-year-old Mackenzie Phillips is charged with:

  • CC 253(1)(a) adult driving while ability impaired - motor vehicle (alcohol)
  • CC 253(1)(b) adult driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood
  • HTA 142 (1) adult turn - not in safety
  • HTA 44.1 (3) adult Novice driver - B.A.C above zero

He is to appear in Collingwood Court on Dec. 18, 2018.
