Canine unit tracks suspect after vehicle crashes into cement barrier

WASAGA BEACH - On Dec. 25, 2019 at 12:47 a.m. early Christmas morning, members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to the area of Eastdale Road and Allenwood Beach after receiving a call that a motor vehicle had crashed into a cement barrier. Upon arriving on scene, police were informed by witnesses that the driver had fled on foot into a wood area.

With assistance from the K9 unit to help with the search, a male was located shortly after where he was arrested and treated for a dog bite sustained during the arrest. The motorist was arrested and transported to detachment for processing.

Twenty-four-year-old Gregory Buchanan of Wasaga Beach was charged with:
    •    Refusal to comply with demand, contrary to the Criminal Code S. 320.15(1)
    •    Novice driver refuse to provide breath sample, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act S. 48.1(4)
    •    Fail to report damage to property on highway, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act S. 201
    •    Fail to remain, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act S. 200(1) (a)

The accused was released on an Undertaking with a future court date in Collingwood.
