COLLINGWOOD AND THE BLUE MOUNTAINS - Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be out on area roadways this upcoming long weekend taking part in Canada Road Safety Week which is a national campaign aimed at making Canada's roads the safest in the world.

So far in 2021 Collingwood/The Blue Mountains OPP officers have responded to 196 motor vehicle collisions, the majority resulted only in property damage, however, three of those were fatal collisions.

With this in mind, officers will be patrolling area roads for enforcement purposes but also to encourage motorists to adopt safe driving practices such as driving sober, avoiding being distracted while operating a vehicle and buckling up.

With the warmer weather, area roads may be busier with motorcyclists was well as cyclists out enjoying the summer like temperatures as well as more pedestrians taking in the sunny days.

With all this increased traffic in general, it is our duty to be vigilant when using area roadways. Remember we all have a part in making our roads safe for everyone.
