Karen Elizabeth Young
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Karen Elizabeth Young on September 25, 2023. Karen passed away tragically at the age of 59, as a result of an automotive vehicle accident that occurred near her home in Collingwood, ON.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Karen. She loved to laugh with a festive drink in hand, good music and great conversation. As a young adult she pursued a career in nursing and proudly worked in Toronto as a medical professional for many years. She enjoyed several hobbies including playing piano and especially enjoyed spending time outdoors; hiking, kayaking, and paddle boarding were just some of the activities she took pleasure in. Karen found beauty in wildflowers, house plants, birds, bunnies and wildlife in general. She had an uncanny ability to be loved by every pup she encountered – always met with wagging tails and wet kisses. Her sparkling personality was contagious and she will be deeply missed by John, her special someone who brought her true love and happiness over the past year, plus her dear friends Suzanne and Mamie, and many others.
Karen is survived by her sister Lois (late Tim) and brothers Garnet (Kim) and Kevin (Laureen); predeceased by her sister Terry and parents Mervin and Helen. She was a special Auntie to many nieces and nephews and leaves behind her former husband Steve with whom, at one-time, she had special memories with. Karen strongly believed “It’s all about the journey and not the destination”.
A celebration of life to honour Karen will be held at a later date. If family and friends so desire, an in- memory donation can be made to the Georgian Triangle Humane Society in Collingwood by visiting their website at gths.ca.
