James Robert Wright of Ravenna, Ontario, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 17th, 2023.

Bob was born on his beloved Maples family farm on April 14th, 1929, to Isla (Mary) Park and James (Jim) Malcolm Wright in Ravenna, Ontario, where he would spend his early and late years relishing in the beauty of the Blue Mountain countryside.

A graduate of Queen’s University (B. Comm. 1953), Bob began his career in Winnipeg where he met his future wife Catherine (Kay) McClure. The two married in 1956 and moved back to Ontario shortly afterwards where Bob continued his career with the Canadian Medical Association, first in Toronto and then Ottawa. After relocating to Ottawa, the focus of Bob’s career shifted to counseling physicians on retirement planning when he founded the Lancet Insurance Agency, under the MD Management umbrella/group of companies.

A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Bob enjoyed curling, golfing, gardening and life on his family farm. He was known for his generosity, sound financial advice and was the rock of his family of whom he cherished most tenderly. He excelled and delighted in his role as Grandpa.

Perhaps his greatest legacy is the Wright Family Reunion which he began in 1975 on the family farm, after his mother had commented she longed for more family gatherings outside weddings and funerals. What began out of love for his mother became an annual tradition because Bob wanted his family to feel connected to their roots.

He was a passionate curler and a former member of both the Dixie Curling Club and the Ottawa Curling Club. In later years he took to golf and was a member of the Blue Mountain Golf & Country Club. He loved having pets around, they lit up his smile and he never passed the opportunity to pet the family dog or let the cat curl up beside him. A quiet, loving family man with a bright mind and a listening ear, his steady and calm presence was always felt and will be forever missed.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Kay, their children; James Ian Wright and Jennifer Lynn Wright (Scott Dinsdale), and their granddaughters; Morgan Lindsay Dinsdale and Taylor Hall Dinsdale (Trevor Morgan).

A celebration of life will be held on April 14, 2024, on what would have been his 95th birthday, at the Blue Mountain Golf & Country Club in Collingwood, Ontario from noon until 4 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Fawcett Funeral Home - Collingwood Chapel.
