Susan Diane Wood
February 14 ,1955 – May 17, 2023

The family is devastated to announce the passing of our much loved Susan. She fought a 7 year battle with Breast Cancer that came to a conclusion at Royal Victoria Hospital. The family would like to thank her team of Doctors, who along with her nurses, were absolutely amazing. Thanks to Dr Rask, Dr Follwell, Dr Boyd & Dr Arthur for their care of Susan. A special thanks to Dr Jacky Lai whose compassion and caring for Susan in her last days was so comforting to us all! He is truly a special person doing an incredibly difficult job. Susan chose to have M.A.I.D. to end her suffering which allowed all of the family to say their goodbyes. She was surrounded by her loving family, with her request of Pavarotti playing softly in the background, as Dr Follwell performed his task with grace.

Susan was born in Toronto on February 14 1955 and she was a true Valentines baby. Full of love and hearts to all who knew her. She was a mother, Aubrey (Jeff Burgess), Stepmother, Charles Assaff, Christopher Assaff (Ashton Novis), Lesley McCauley (Kieran), and an amazing Gramma Sue to Kiana (Nick), Tristan & Ashleigh McCauley. She was a sister to Laurie Rodgers, Bobby, Paul & Barry Wood. Auntie to Erin McConnachie (Darren) and James Rodgers (Laura Crane). Special great Auntie to Charlise and Vann McConnachie and Rory Crane / Rodgers. She was the wife of Stephen C Assaff and they enjoyed a 30 year passionate romance. She was the love of his life as he was hers. His heart is broken.

To say that Sue was full of the life would be an understatement to all that knew her. Her smile could light up a room. She loved to walk and hike with her little Havanese dog , Kallie Lou who misses her Mommy terribly. She also had many girlfriends that she loved to walk and hike with. She took up the game of golf later in life and had so many fun days at The Mad River Golf Club. She made many girlfriends there and they were so supportive and loving to her during her illness. Thank you all so much!

In the winters, Steve & Sue would depart to their home in Delray Beach Florida at The Seagate Country Club. They made so many good friends there over the years and she was loved by all her knew her. Special mention to Ginny & Rob Clark whom we had so many fun times together with on the course and with trips to Europe, Pebble Beach & Napa. The outpouring of condolences to Sue’s passing from her/our many friends in Collingwood and Florida has been overwhelming. Susan loved to have a drink or two whether it was playing Canasta, in the 19th hole after golf or at dinner with family and friends. She has been cremated and her wish was for her ashes to be spread into Silver Creek at her home on Blue Mountain. The family will gather together to carry out her wishes then raise a glass to toast this amazing woman whose life touched many.

Donations to Think Pink Breast Cancer Research in lieu of flowers would be appreciated. Friends May visit Susan’s online Book of Memories at fawcettfuneralhomes.com.
