It is with heartfelt sadness that we say farewell to Joan who left February 23, 2023 in her 94th year, to join her recently departed husband John (January 18, 2023) following a short stay at Hospice Georgian Triangle - Campbell House, in Collingwood. Joan felt blessed to have shared over 72 years with the “best man in Stayner”. Joan will be missed by her son Greg of Victoria, B.C., sister Shirley Day, brother Jim (Lucie) Noble, and sister-in-law, Marg Wood, as well as many special nieces and nephews from coast to coast. Joan is predeceased by her parents, Norma and Alex Miller, and brothers Bob and Tom Noble. Born in Tecumseh, Ontario, December 1, 1929, Joan spent her formative years in St. Catharines and Creemore, moving to Stayner when she was 13. At 17 years of age she began a teaching career that spanned 40 years, the majority of which were spent at Byng Public School in Stayner. Nicknamed “Frog” by her brother, Woody by friends, Joan was a fun-loving individual with seemingly endless energy, who possessed a strong will and a caring nature. She would drop off gifts of food, or small bouquets of fresh flowers just to let you know she was thinking of you. An avid cross country skier, skater, and swimmer, she savoured the weather each season presented. She took great joy working in her flower garden and taking photos of her blooms. She was a long-time member of Jubilee Presbyterian Church and took great pride in decorating the church with her floral arrangements. Her greatest love was spending time with her extended family. Joan was recently awarded a 70 year pin from the Order of the Eastern Star, Stayner Chapter #270, for her years of dedication in reflecting the spirit of fraternal love, and giving her time to meaningful projects to benefit others. Joan will be fondly remembered by her fellow members in RTOERO District 17, Unit 4, as well as her many neighbours and friends.

To honour Joan’s wishes, private family funeral arrangements have been made through Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home - Stayner Chapel. If desired, donations may be made to either Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation-Campbell House or Make-A-Wish Canada.  To sign Joan’s Book of Memories, please visit www.carruthersdavidson.com
