William Thomas (Tom) Wensley

Monday, December 21, 1931 – Monday, October 2, 2023

Tom Wensley, in his 92nd year, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours (also referred to as the ‘crack of dawn’) of Monday, October 2, 2023 at Meaford Long Term Care.

Born December 21, 1931 in Collingwood, he was the eldest son of Ina Hunt (nee Wensley, nee McGinty) and Thomas Wensley. Soon to follow were brothers Brian and Barry. Sadly, their father passed away when Tom was only 12. Soon thereafter Tom started a job with CN Telegraph Office delivering telegrams on his bicycle throughout the Collingwood area. Ina married again to Jock Hunt and they had a son Doug.

Eventually Tom moved to Toronto and continued working for CN Telecommunications. While at CN he met Sophie Nicoloff and in May 1955 they were married. Soon after, their first child Michael (Carole) arrived, soon after that, Paul, soon after that, Mary-Anne and a long while after that, Frances and a couple of years later, George (Barb).

After Tom’s retirement from CN he moved back to Simcoe County residing with his mom, Ina, in Wasaga Beach. Tom loved to swim and was often found at the RecPlex in Wasaga getting in his lane swims or participating in an aquafit class.  He enjoyed cycling around town and for many years joined his group of friends in their many planning meetings culminating in the annual fishing trip. Tom spent a number of summers working at the Slide Ride in Wasaga and winters working at Blue Mountain.

Tom will always be fondly remembered for his great sense of humour and very distinctive laugh. He amused many with his sayings and word-play. Most recent one – Don’t Let Your Meat Loaf – composed while residing at Raglan Village (2021-2023).

Tom is survived by his five children and six grandchildren – Danielle, Jamie, Jane, Gabe, Felix and Sophie.

He will be missed by all and each of us will treasure many memories and smile.

The Wensley Family wishes to extend appreciation and gratitude to the care provided to our dad by the doctors, nurses and staff at Raglan Village, Meaford Long Term Care and Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.

In Memory of Tom Wensley and in lieu of flowers, a donation to Collingwood General and Marine Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Or buy yourself a Princess Margaret Lottery ticket in honour of Tom and you just may win.

Please share any sayings of Tom’s, stories and memories with us!

Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 21st, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 63 Elgin St, Collingwood followed by a Celebration of Life at the Collingwood Legion, North Atlantic Room, 490 Ontario St, Collingwood.
