Bev Taylor passed away peacefully at his home last Thursday, surrounded by his family. He was 91.
In those 91 years, he lived life to the fullest – and made many friends along the way. Born in Dromore Ontario, he went west at 14 to send money home after his father died, landing back in Toronto to pursue a career as an Electrician. Dad met Marion in 1955 after he returned from a stint in the Artic, they were married in 1957, and moved to Collingwood in 1969.
Dad was fully engaged in everything he chose to do – from the Electricians Union (IBEW 353), to the Collingwood Community, through the Lodging Association, the Tourist Association, Rotary, and the Masons. He took a very active role in all of these organizations, leading them to growth and success. He was presented with the Order of Collingwood and the Companion Order of Collingwood.
Bev Taylor worked very hard his entire life, and enjoyed sitting having a drink with almost everyone. He was charitable, and dedicated himself to helping others. You could always count on him to help, and rarely had to ask. He was the master at fixing just about anything, and we fondly referred to him as ‘Rube Goldberg’.
Bev is survived by his wife Marion, son Dean (Susie) and daughter Lee. He will be forever cherished by his grandchildren Joshua (Caroline), Daisy, and Lily. He was very proud of his great grandson Morgan.
Bev will be remembered as a hard driving, hard working, clever (sometimes mischievous) and very charitable man who liked to golf, fish and most of all, contribute.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Collingwood Legion beginning at 1pm, on Friday October 29th.
