Died peacefully at Campbell House (Hospice Georgia Triangle) in Collingwood on September 29th after a short illness. He was just shy of his 79th birthday.

Beloved husband of his “bride” Nancy (Chisholm) for 53 years. Cherished father of Christine and Read. Dear brother of Geoff, Wendy and Sheila. Admired uncle to 10 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Son of the late Morris and Frances Smith.

Doug spent 32 years at Nalco (originally Alchem) in various roles. After retirement, he was an involved member of the Curling Club of Collingwood, the Duntroon Highlands Golf Club and the Probus Club of Blue Mountain. He believed strongly in community service, volunteering at the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital for 14 years and initiating the “Curlers Without Ice” team for the annual Hike for Hospice, eventually earning the Order of Collingwood. He was also a lifelong amateur radio enthusiast (VE3RG).

A celebration of life will take place at the Curling Club of Collingwood on October 7th from 2-4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Collingwood General & Marine Hospital or Hospice Georgian Triangle would be appreciated. Friends may visit Doug's online Book of Memories at www.fawcettfuneralhomes.com.
