Nancy Joan Sherwin passed away unexpectedly at the Meaford Hospital on October 5, 2023 at the age of 57.

Born in Durham, Ontario on February 20, 1966, Nancy spent her summers working at Camp Quin-Mo-Lac, which led to the realization that she wanted a job working with children. She graduated from the University of Toronto in 1989 with an arts degree. A job at Bethune House in Gravenhurst led to a teaching job at the Bethune Medical College in Shijiazhaung, China. It was here that she first met, Ken Haigh, who would later become her husband. After returning to Canada, Nancy enrolled in Teacher’s College at U of T and her first job was teaching for a year at Taylor’s College in Malaysia. While in Malaysia she travelled to Singapore, Vietnam, and Borneo. Back in Canada she worked as a high school teacher at Barrie North Collegiate and at Collingwood Collegiate Institute where she served as an English teacher, ESL teacher and school librarian. She retired from teaching in June 2023.

Nancy loved to swim, and she read a book a day. She also loved to sing and act, performing in several choirs and amateur theatricals. Nancy was an adventurous soul who loved to travel and was always curious to learn something new. Her family was the most important thing in her life, and some of her fondest memories were of time spent together at the family cottage on Moira Lake. Nancy is survived by her husband, Ken Haigh, and her three children: Rachel, Brendan and Joshua.

Friends will be received at the Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 5 until 8 p.m. A funeral service and interment will be conducted at the Eldad United Church in Solina, Ontario with a date to be announced in the near future.

As your expression of sympathy, donations to the MS Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted. www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca.
