Mary O'Shaughnessy died at 1 pm on Friday August 11, 2023. She was 92 years old. She had been living in a long-term care facility in Meaford, Ontario.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, her brother Patrick and her husband Roland (Roly) O'Shaughnessy. Born in Ireland, Mary moved to Ontario and was educated at the University of Toronto. She joined a Catholic religious community - the Redemptoristines and taught elementary school at St. Roch school in Toronto.
Mary eventually left the religious community.
Fate intervened when Mary's friend Pauline Gallagher invited her to go to Ireland with her to attend a family wedding. While in Ireland, Mary met Pauline's oldest cousin - Roly.
Mary and Roly married soon afterwards, building a life together in Ireland before returning to Canada and eventually settling in Collingwood, Ontario. They were married for forty years, until Roly's death in 2016.
Mary laughed easily and often. She had a gentle way of making anyone she met feel immediately at ease. She will be greatly missed.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 63 Elgin St, Collingwood, ON L9Y 3L6 at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday September 7, 2023.
