Beloved husband of Sandra Jean Ohrt (nee Williams), married 45 beautiful years, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away on August 17, 2018 at the age of 77. Proud and beloved father of Russell (Elizabeth Garrett) and Heather. Beloved Grandad to cherished grandchildren: Finnegan, Elias, Beatrix, and Juniper Ohrt. He is survived by his brothers Jürgen and Rudolf and predeceased by his father Heinrich, his mother Margaretha and his brothers Klaus, Hans and Timm. He was born in Germany and immigrated to Canada at 26. He worked in Toronto at Lurgi, at Peabody in Mississauga and for 27 years at Dofasco in Hamilton as a mechanical engineer. With his family, he lived in Hamilton, Burlington and Collingwood. Herman’s attention, skill and energy for designing, repairing and building his surroundings were generous and constant. He loved hiking, camping and cottaging on the Bruce Peninsula, Georgian Bay and in Algonquin and Killarney. He was an active member of the Bruce Trail Association, clearing trails, leading hikes and served as President of the Blue Mountain chapter for a number of years. He enjoyed travelling with loved ones extensively. Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 12th from 7-9 p.m. and Celebration of Life on September 13th at 1:00 p.m., both held at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 104 Hughson Street North, Hamilton. Time will be made for sharing fond memories of Herman in the latter portion of his Celebration of Life service.
