1942 – 2021

John died on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, after a valiant battle with many health issues.

Left to grieve is his loving partner, Donna Mansfield, his beloved daughters, Claire (Miguel) and Joanna (Ted) and his two beautiful grandsons, Dusty and Grey.

He will be missed by his sisters, Martha Lawrence and Sally Moore, brother in law Bill Moore.  He will be fondly remembered by Vanessa Magee.  Uncle John will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and will be missed by his many friends, too many to mention.

Predeceased by his parents, Jack and Mary (Johnston) Magee and his older sister, Jane Lash.

John grew up in Toronto.  He entered the brokerage business with Richardson Greenshields in the mid 60’s and he loved every minute of it.  Even though he was retired from the business, right up until a few days before he died, his friends and family knew not to call him until about 10:15a.m., so he had time to put in any trades that were needed for that day.  On retirement, he drove a school bus.  This put him on top of Blue Mountain every morning when the sun was coming up.  He loved this job too.

John moved to the country from Toronto in 1989.  He loved “country living”, commuting to Collingwood daily, and when he wanted to downsize, he moved permanently to Collingwood in 2010.

John had many interests.  As well as being an accomplished artist of water colours, he was a quiet philanthropist, helping children and families with special gifts at Christmas along with joyfully supporting Mama Zipporah’s gardens in Kenya.

Arrangements entrusted to Chatterson Funeral Home, Collingwood.  A celebration of John’s life will be held on a sunny day in the fall in the country.  Details will follow.

A donation in John’s memory, the family would appreciate donations to Mama Zipporah’s home in Kenya may be made through Huruma Children’s Trust (Canada), a registered Canadian charity www.hurumachildrenstrustcanada.org.
