John Lennox, aged 90, passed away peacefully on March 4th, 2024. He is survived by his beloved wife Joanne, children Marion, John (Joanne), Terry (Alan), Dan (Jacqueline), grandchildren Jay, Jen, Nicole, Megan, Stella, Matilda, Poppy, Otto and great-grandchildren Keydan, Charlie, Hannah, and Rowan.

John was born on September 3rd, 1933, in Toronto, to Vivienne and Malcolm Lennox. He embarked on his entrepreneurial journey along the transcontinental highway, initially selling Chinese dry goods. Later, he ventured into the sporting goods industry, playing a pivotal role in introducing Adidas to Canada. Subsequently, he transitioned into selling gym equipment to high schools in southern Ontario, co-founding Collegiate Sports with Alice Lennox which evolved into the first major sporting goods “big box store” in North America. Afterward, the duo co-founded Sport Chek in Calgary, establishing it as the preeminent sporting goods store in Western Canada. Following his tenure there, he focused on a new venture, Old Firehall Sports with Joanne Lennox, a distinctive boutique sporting goods store on Main Street Unionville, Ontario, garnering a dedicated following.

Beyond his professional pursuits, John was an enthusiastic sailor, navigating waters from Lake Ontario to the Bahamas and the Middle East. Known for his generous spirit and penchant for mischief, he entertained countless people with his elaborate pranks and wit.

John will be dearly remembered by his family, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives he enriched. Per his wishes, a small family gathering will commemorate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital are appreciated. “Toodley-um-doodley-um-doodles!”. Arrangements entrusted to Fawcett Funeral Home – Collingwood.
