Jonathan Jaret Knight was raised in Whitby Ontario where he attended R.A. Sennett Public School until the end of Grade six. Then, for seven years, he was a boarding student at Trinity College School in Port Hope, Ontario. Although he was often home sick, and missing his parents, as an only child born to Dr. John and Joan Knight, he was delighted to find himself in a wonderful community of learning with 400 brothers. At Trinity, small class sizes benefited him, especially in the early years. And after his Grade thirteen graduation, he attended and graduated from Bishop’s University in Lennoxville, Quebec. After graduation, he worked in a variety of sales venues which included being a ski rep for Head, but he ultimately settled upon real estate as his chosen career. He has lived in Collingwood Ontario in the same house for over twenty years. He married Shawna and they have shared the parenting of their two children whom he adored, Hawksley and Mabel.

Jonathan enjoyed recreational skiing from the age of two. Attending Trinity gave him the opportunity to develop his technique through ski racing. At the same time, he attended the courses of the CSIA and passed levels 1, 2 and 3. Skiing was his passion and an outlet for his creativity. He always said that the best skier on the mountain is the one having the most fun.

At Trinity, his contribution to the ski team was twice recognized with the John Armstrong Award. Jonathan was the first man out on the ski hill in the morning and last to leave. He was the one who carried the “gates”. No task was ever too small nor too big. He was a naturally talented middle-distance runner and, in fact, he participated with enthusiasm in all the sports offered at Trinity including track and field, soccer, cricket and most especially rugby.

As a realtor he was a natural. He had that instant likeability quality which is so essential in sales. He loved being out and about, meeting new people and exploring different areas. He was passionate about his work and that led to his success as a realtor.

In life, he was generous, helpful and a dependable friend to many. His Dad, Dr John Knight, a very real influence in Jonathan’s life died on October 13, 2022. Jonathan missed him every day. Jonathan loved his children and did the very best he could to follow the example of both of his parent’s commitment to parenting.

Due to his unexpected, sudden, and peaceful death Joan, Shawna, Hawksley and Mabel are feeling very sad. However, we will always remember with endless love our dynamic, fun-loving, caring Jonathan.

If you are thinking of a donation in his memory, a GO fund me account for Hawksley and Mabel is in place.

A celebration of life will be held at the Collingwood Ski Club on Friday September 1, 2023, from 1-4 p.m. with tributes at 3 p.m. Friends may visit Jonathan’s online Book of Memories at www.fawcettfuneralhomes.com
