KELLY, Elizabeth "Betty" Pearl (nee Ormerod)

Betty Kelly (1)

Elizabeth “Betty” Pearl Kelly (nee Ormerod) passed away peacefully on August 29th, 2021, surrounded by the love of her husband of 51 yrs., Donald Kelly and their 4 children, Alison Kelly (Peter Downs), Martha Redick (John), Sean Kelly (Jocelyn Gavard) and Stephen Kelly (Elizabeth Ellis). She will always be remembered as Mema to grandchildren Darcy, Sebastian, Regan and Matthew.

Betty was born in Mount Elgin, Ontario to parents Thomas “Bud” (2006) and Violet Ormerod (2017). One of 9 kids who grew up on a dairy farm in Tobacco country.

She met Don on a blind date in 1969. 6 months of dating and they were engaged and 6 months after that, they were married. When you know, you just know. The strength of their love was never more prevalent than over the last 10 months as Betty battled cancer.

During those 10 months, not once did she complain. You can take the tough girl off the farm, but you can’t take the tough out of the girl.

Betty worked for many years as a secretary at Admiral Collingwood Public School where she made many lasting friendships with colleagues and parents. None more important than that of her principal, Terry Geddes and a young music teacher, Brian Hamlin.

A stong member of the Trinity United Church here in Collingwood, she was grateful for the friendship forged with Rev. Brian Goodings.

Her first love was her family, especially her grandkids. She enjoyed watching the Toronto Blue Jays (they even squeaked out a win on her final day) and curling on TV. Looking out her windows at the bird feeders and trying to identify any newcomers.

At the request of the family, only a private service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Friends may visit Betty's online Book of Memories at www.fawcettfuneralhomes.com.
