March 13, 1927 - Nagykanizsa, Hungary - August 27, 2023 - Barrie Ontario
Our mother passed away peacefully at the age of 96 to join her husband Fred (2007).
She was strong yet gentle, fierce but calm, thinking of the wellbeing of her children to the very end.
Mom had a hard life but persevered coming to Canada with her husband from Hungary as refugees with three children aged one, three and seven. Neither of our parents spoke English in the beginning but went to night school to learn it, managed to find secure jobs and to raise their children happy and well adjusted. After the death of her husband she soldiered on living on her own at home for 16 years until the past year and a half when she went into long term care at the IOOF seniors home in Barrie.
Helen leaves behind her children Judy (Lee Huish), Peter (Patricia Herbstreit) and Zsuzsa. She will also be missed by her grandchildren Jessica (Godfrey Nkongolo), Andrea Loziuk, Vanessa Loziuk, Deanna Jablonszky, Bob Huish (Gabrielle Bardall) and great grandchildren Rebeka, Adah, Solomon, Harry and Leanne.
The family would like to thank her caregivers especially Ceres Flores who looked after her while she was still living at home. The PSWs and nursing staff at IOOF were always caring and many dropped in to say goodbye to her in her final days, whether they were on shift or not.
