After a courageous battle John Gray Hutchinson died on Friday, December 22, 2023, at Campbell House Hospice, Collingwood with family by his side at the age of 76. John, of Wasaga Beach, was born on September 12, 1947, in Toronto to parents Jack and Margaret Hutchinson and sisters Lesley Weslock and Nancy Hutchinson. Loving father of Cole (Jane) and Todd (Ashley).  Cherished Papa of Cade, Solaira, Will and Madeline. Greatly missed by his sidekick Buddy. Fondly remembered by his extended family and many friends. John was predeceased by his parents, sister Nancy and wife Pat.

The Hutchinson family owned and operated the Dyconia Resort in Wasaga Beach from 1952 to 2008 as well as R. U. Reddy’s in Collingwood. John Hutchinson a longtime businessman first started his career on the Toronto Stock Exchange.  He later moved up to Wasaga Beach to operate the Dyconia Resort for his parents.  John quickly fell in love with the hospitality industry and dedicated his life to being hospitable and wanting people to have a great time.  His love for Wasaga Beach being the world’s longest freshwater beach fueled his passion and he never stopped promoting Wasaga as a key vacation destination. John enjoyed his retirement by spending time with family and friends, boating, talking politics and vacationing with Pat at their favourite spot Lauderdale By the Sea.

A heartfelt thank you to Nica, Doug, Glennie and Dave. The family also wishes to graciously thank Dr. Singh and her oncology team at RVH, St. Elizabeth Home Care nurses and PSW’s, Wasaga IDA Pharmacy and Campbell House Hospice.

Cremation has taken place. The family will be planning a “Hutch size” celebration of life to be held in the spring with details to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Diabetes Canada, Canadian Cancer Society or Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation for Campbell House Hospice.
