It is with profound sadness that the family of Derek Hutchison announces his passing on March 27, 2024, at the age of 54, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, in 1969, Derek embarked on a journey marked by academic achievement, professional success and an unquenchable love of life.

Derek pursued his education with zeal, earning degrees that reflected his thirst for knowledge and excellence. He attended the University of Western Ontario before furthering his studies at Lake Superior State University and Queen's University, where he obtained two master's degrees. Derek forged a remarkable career in management consulting and finance, which saw him traverse the globe in pursuit of his professional endeavours. His most recent role at the Royal Bank of Canada was a testament to his dedication and expertise in his field.

Beyond his professional achievements, Derek embraced life with an unwavering zest, finding solace and joy in hobbies and relationships. An avid golfer and skier, he revelled in the beauty of the outdoors, particularly after relocating with his family to the Blue Mountains in 2020. Yet, it was in the company of loved ones that Derek found his greatest happiness. Whether sharing laughter with friends or savouring moments with his beloved family over fine wine and homemade Italian cuisine, Derek's warmth and charm left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Derek leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, cherished by his wife of 23 years, Karen Hutchison (Hedgecoe), and their son Ben. He will be deeply missed by his brothers Bruce (Lisa) and Sean (Dana), as well as his nephews Michael, Daniel, Harry, Leo, and Mathieu.  As well, he will be sorely missed by his loving in-laws Dave and Eileen Hedgecoe and brother-in-law Greg Hedgecoe (Josee Anne). Derek was predeceased by his parents, Ellen and Gerald Hutchison, yet his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were touched by his kindness and generosity.

In accordance with Derek's wishes, a small, private celebration of life will be held to honour his memory. For those who wish to pay tribute to Derek's life, contributions to Sinai Health Foundation, Cancer Care in Toronto would be deeply appreciated. Donations can be made by calling 416-586-8203 or 1-877-565-8555 or through the following link: https://supportsinai.ca (select Other and type Cancer Care).

May the memory of Derek Hutchison continue to inspire and uplift all who knew him, and may his legacy of love and resilience endure for generations to come.  To sign Derek’s Book of Memories, please visit www.chattersonfuneralhome.com
