It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing away on Saturday July 29, 2023, of John (Jack) Heron at the age of 86 years at Campbell House in Collingwood.

Jack was predeceased by his wife Marilyn (nee Hutchison). Jack is survived by his daughter Heather Heron-Jurke, granddaughter Natalie Jurke, son in law Ervin Jurke, sister Margaret Wright, nephew Terry Wright and family, niece Jewel (Wright) Poole and family, nephew Robert Wright, sister in law Gail Samuelson and family.

Jack left school in grade 6 to take care of his mother due to illness. His first job was as a pinsetter at a bowling alley until hit by a bowling ball (true story), then at Dominion stores, also Brewers retail, Peerless Textiles in Collingwood as a cutter, Peerless Textiles in Hanover as a cutting room foreman for 2 years, Collingwood Shipyards as a driller then welder for 10 yrs., and Harding Carpets as a finishing line foreman for 16 years. He left Harding’s due to injury in 1984 subsequently graduated from Georgian College with an accounting diploma and then had to retire due to poor health. 

In 1954 Jack joined the Sea Cadet ranks and became a Commanding officer.  He was highly respected and loved by the kids he worked with. Years later he got letters from his cadets thanking him for changing their lives for the better. This work was among his proudest moments.

Jack loved music, camping at Craigleith with family and friends, painting, photography, astrology, motor boating and sailing.  He will be sorely missed.

We would like to thank CGMH doctors and nurses for their care of Jack while there and thank our family doctor, Dr Lewin, as well as Dr McDonald and Dr English.  We would also like to thank Campbell House for making Jack's last hours comfortable.   The visitation will be on Thursday August 3, 2023, at 1:30 pm for the funeral at 2:00 pm with reception to follow. Interment at Christ Church Batteaux Cemetery. Friends may visit Jack’s online Book of Memories at www.fawcettfuneralhomes.com
