April 12, 1925 – August 31, 2023

After 98 remarkable years, our loving husband and father, Horst, passed away peacefully on August 31/2023, surrounded by family and friends.

Horst will be greatly missed by his wife, Marion and children Winfried (Gisela), Christine (Walter), Cornelia (Rainer) and Patricia (Peter). He will be fondly remembered by his sisters Christel (Kurt), Helga, his brother Wolfgang (Petra) and a large extended family who reside in Germany. Although far away, he remained in close contact and took great interest in their lives.

He was a very proud Opa to his cherished granddaughter, Deanna. Sharing in her accomplishments and watching her grow into a strong and independent young lady brought him great joy.

As a former Export Director with BMW, he travelled the world, settled in Canada to become an entrepreneur and successful businessman.  Through his hard work and determination, he was able to build a comfortable life which he shared with his wife Marion. Through good times and bad, he never missed an opportunity to show his love and be thankful for their time together.

From his home in Collingwood, he was an avid sportsman who enjoyed skiing, tennis, horseback riding and being in nature with his loved ones. Throughout the years, he spent endless hours working to bring his visions to life. Whether it was the empty pot in the garden, that needed a flower, or the cottage that could use another room, he saw the potential in everything.

Enjoying time at the cottage in Honey Harbour is where he developed his love for Georgian Bay. Whether he was chopping wood, building a fire, watching the sunset, out on the water in his boat or entertaining his friends and family, he was happiest in his ‘little piece of heaven’.

He was always a gentleman and generous host who opened his home to everyone. His love of life came through entertaining, good food, sharing stories, telling old jokes and he always found an occasion to pop a champagne cork, or two!

Even through the challenges he faced in his later years, he maintained his charismatic personality, his sense of humour and the twinkle in his eye was always there.

To all that knew him well, raise a glass and toast to Horst in memory of all the wonderful times shared together. Cheers Dad!

“Memory is the only paradise from which we cannot be driven. When the sun of life sets, the stars of memories shine.”

Cremation has taken place, and a private celebration of Horst’s life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Hospice Georgian Triangle – Campbell House or the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.
