Artist and teacher, Catherine ‘Carol’ Hahn passed away in Meaford, Ontario on Friday, July 14, 2023 at the age of 72.
Carol was born in Johannesburg, South Africa to Elizabeth Ruth Green (nee Webster) and Charles Patrick Green on April 4, 1951. Carol emigrated to Canada in 1980, settling first in Ravenna and then in Clarksburg.
She is the beloved sister of Chris Green and Anne Green and mother to Ashley Leone (nee Hahn) and Frances Hahn. Carol was predeceased by her son, Claude. She will be missed by her grandchildren Beau, Theo, Beatrix, Oscar, and Sebastian and by her stepson, Laurent. She always had a witty joke for each of them and loved them dearly.
Carol loved rain and the smell of skunks that reminded her of South Africa. She marked the start of spring as the first day she saw a robin in the garden. It was her favourite season and when we celebrated her birthday - and the cluster of other birthdays in the family - along with Easter. And it was when the spring bulbs showed their beauty and she was finally able to spend time planting and seeding, all the while planning around the rabbits that would eat her lettuce soon enough. In her final conversations her heart ached for the passing of her dog Ella and the neighbour’s rooster Patrick.
Carol created beauty around her - through her art and her garden - but her warmth was her greatest attribute. She made many friends with her kindness, generosity and her ability to accept every human; her wry sense of humour kept us laughing. She taught so many people her craft and shared her wisdom on every subject - gleaned from her own life experience or from something she heard on the CBC.
All are welcome to celebrate Carol’s life at the Marsh Street Centre in Clarksburg on Friday, July 28, 2023 from 1:30 until 4 p.m. with tributes at 2 o’clock.
