It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Wilhelmina “Miep” de Groot on Wednesday January 24, 2024 at Barrie Manor in Barrie at the age of 84. Miep was the beloved wife of Pieter de Groot for over 59 years. Loving Mother of Peter, Cora (Tom), Wilma (George), Yvonne (Bill) and Martin (Jonna). Cherished Grandmother “Oma” of Rachelle (Hartaarn), Anna, Stephanie (Ross), Mathew (Hoài Thương), Jenny (Cory), Katie (Trevor), Mark, Tamara and Allison (Trey). Great Grandmother “Oma” of: Elijah, Andrew, Danielle, Aaron, Patrick, Rundeep, Bronwyn, Avery, Tarkul, Juliet, Jacob, Laura and Baby Boy (due June 2024). Miep is predeceased by siblings Maarten and Wim and survived by sister Cokkie.

Miep was born in Vlaardingen, Holland, married the love of her life Pieter in 1961 and came to Canada in 1963 with her husband Pieter and son Peter.

Miep enjoyed volunteering and especially loved her time with the Girl Guides of Canada leading Brownies and Sparks. She loved camping and she was affectionately nicknamed Road Runner as he always said “Miep, Miep!” Over the last number of years, she has been involved with the Trefoil Guild, a group for adult women in Guiding.

Miep and Pieter loved travelling, seeing and exploring new places. When the children were young, they accomplished this by packing tents and towing a trailer over much of Canada and the US. Later they would embark on adventures with the two of them going to places like Iceland, Norway, Russia, Mexico, River Cruises, Alaska and more. They especially enjoyed their trips back home to Holland.

Miep's family would like to thank all the nurses, PSW's and staff at Barrie Manor. Miep was provided exemplary care through her journey of limited mobility and pain.

Funeral Service will be held at the Collingwood Christian Reformed Church, 7642 Poplar Sideroad, Collingwood on Wednesday January 31, 2024 at 11 o’clock, with visitation one hour prior. Interment First Presbyterian Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Collingwood Christian Reformed Church. To leave a message of condolence or to share a memory of Miep, please visit www.chattersonfuneralhome.com.
