Derwyn (Derry) Danby was a profoundly kind, loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather who sadly passed away peacefully on April 9th, 2024 at the age of 87.

Born in Weston, ON on December 23rd, 1936 his first love was hockey, rising high enough in the junior ranks of the Original Six era to be told by Gordie Howe to ‘keep your head up kid’ as he received one of his famous elbows. Next came flying and becoming a pilot but, along the way he met Lyn, the love of his life, marrying in 1962, choosing instead to become an Air Traffic Controller. His calm demeanor was perfect for such a stress-filled job and he could also be present and devoted to Lyn and their two children, Mark (Stacy) and Christopher (Suzan) and his three grandchildren, Sam, Ella and Oliver.

After retiring from Air Traffic Control, he and Lyn moved to Collingwood to be close to another passion, skiing, where he became a ski patrol at Osler Bluff which fulfilled his need to help others. He was an extraordinarily selfless man always putting others ahead of himself.

The dedication, kindness, love and support he gave to his family knew no bounds, especially to Lyn caring for her 60 years with absolute devotion as Multiple Sclerosis slowly debilitated her. He was a beautiful soul that will be truly missed. Friends may visit Derwyn's online Book of Memories at www.fawcettfuneralhomes.com
