Passed peacefully in his 94st year on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Creedan Valley, Creemore, Ontario. he was born February 27, 1930 in Long branch, Ontario now known as Etobicoke. Beloved husband of 70 plus years of the late Grace Childs. Loving father of Lorne Childs Jr. (Carol), Sherryl Chapman (Douglas) and Ken Childs (Tracy). Cherished grandfather of Lindsay, Dillon, Brendan (Stephanie) and Trevor and great grandfather of Amelia and Hunter. He will also be missed by sister-in-law Doreen Marshall (nee Elliott), extended family and friends. Lorne is pre-deceased by his parents, five brothers and one sister.
Lorne was a kind, generous man, with a big heart and a ready smile. He had magic hands, there was nothing he couldn’t build. He enjoyed working with his brothers in the business his father built beside his childhood home. J.H. Childs and Sons operated for 42 years, and were known as “The Builders of Lakeshore.” Lorne enjoyed golfing, camping and travelling with his family. He and his brothers spent much of their leisure time together. As young men, they visited Wasaga Beach often, eventually purchasing a cottage on the river. After they had families, the Childs’ camped for many years at Klondike Park. When they sold the business in 1986, Lorne and three of his brothers retired to “Hometown.” He and Grace remained there for 35 years, also spending many winters in Fort Meyers, FL.
