June 9th 1936 – July 19th 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Armstrong. Peter died peacefully in his home surrounded by family, after living gracefully with Parkinson’s disease for 12 years. Although we are saddened by his passing, we are thankful for the memories, a life well-lived, and the example he set for all of us.

Peter is survived by his devoted wife and best friend of 59 years, Mary (nee Ireland); his loving children, Erin (Greg), John (Dianne), and Mike; beloved grandchildren Gillian, Sarah, Chloe, Duncan, Kylie, Leah, and Peter; sister Louise; and predeceased by brother Dave Armstrong (Carol).

Peter was born in Melrose, MA, but grew up in Huttonville, Ontario. He graduated from the Western Business School and moved on to a noteworthy career in Toronto at Abitibi Price, MacMillan Bloedel, and later as a career transition consultant, always assisting others. Peter also had a strong commitment to philanthropy through his work with Rotary, Delisle House, Collingwood General Hospital, Acid Rain, the United Church and many others.

He and Mary retired to their happy place of Brookvale (Thornbury) in 2004 where he was an active member of the community and developed many close friendships.

Peter always had a smile on his face and lit up every room. We will never forget his love of life, genuine interest in people, witty sense of humour, infectious laugh, sharp memory, keen recall of history, and most importantly, his integrity and unwavering love of family and friends. Peter will be forever remembered for his affection of Cumberland Bay, Caledon Ski Club, the Shepherd, classic cars, and ice cream bars.

We are especially grateful for the wonderful support Peter received from Dr. Peter Wells, Cindy (VON), Charlie, Yvonne and his many friends.

A celebration of life will take place at Grace United Church on Friday October 6, 2023 at 1 p.m. followed by a reception at Georgian Peaks Ski Club.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in his honour to the Parkinson’s Society of Canada Parkinson Donations, Collingwood General Hospital G&M Donations or Grace United Church, Thornbury Grace United Church Donations.
