Thornbury’s skating rink will be converted to curling ice this week for three days of curling events.

The events are being hosted by members of the newly formed not-for-profit Blue Mountains Curling Centre. The schedule includes lessons for students, groups, and individuals as well as showcase, jitney and exhibition games.

This event is a result of momentum gained when local curlers got together to host Beaver Valley Rocks, which included a celebrity game featuring Olympic gold medallist curler Jennifer Jones, and decorated Canadian curler Russ Howard.

The schedule for this year’s three day event is as follows:

Thursday, March 29:

Noon-3 p.m., Student program
6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Beginners and open jitney curling

Friday, March 30:

8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Beginners program - open jitney
Noon and 2 p.m., Showcase doubles curling

Saturday, March 31:

8 a.m. to 10 a.m., Pancake breakfast
8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Beginners program - open jitney
Noon and 2 p.m., Showcase doubles curling
2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Music by Thirsty Boys
