Beaver Valley Figure Skating club wrapped up the regular skating season last night with a reception for the beginner skaters.

The club sees between 50 and 75 beginner skaters come through its program each year. The skaters participate in an annual show, some go to a fun competition and they all take part in lessons to teach basic skating skills for figure skating, hockey or recreation skating. All sessions are run out of the arena in Thornbury by the club's head coach Karen Verbrugge and club coach Erika Engel. The club is Skate Canada certified.

March 26 was the last evening of skating lessons. The coaches handed out year end report cards, and also named the two skaters who received a Spirit of Canskate Award for their hard work, improvement and positive attitude on the ice. This year's winners were Taven Lobsinger and Andy Clarke. The Canskater of the Year award goes to the skater who has shown the most improvement and has worked hard to achieve success on the ice. This year's winner was Emma Cuthbert.

Beaver Valley Figure Skating Club also runs a StarSkate program with junior and senior skaters. They also finished their season March 26. The club will host an award banquet later in the spring.
