HABITAT FOR HUMANITY SOUTH GEORGIAN BAY

Habitat for Humanity South Georgian Bay is inviting the community to a Groundbreaking Ceremony and Build Kick-off Community BBQ on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. at 212 Quebec Street, Stayner, a site which will eventually provide two new homes for local families in need of affordable housing.

“This project has experienced some unavoidable delays which pushed our start date back significantly,” said Joy Fleury, Executive Director for Habitat, “and while there are still a couple steps still to take, we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, so it’s time to celebrate!”

At this event, Habitat will also be introducing the two families that have partnered with them to work alongside them to build their new homes in Stayner.

“We are excited to introduce our future homeowners to their new neighborhood and welcome them to the community, enjoy some refreshments together and have them help us break ground for Builds #15 & 16.” Joy said. The event will continue rain or shine.  Added Fleury… “Fear not – we will have rain canopies for shelter if the clouds don’t cooperate, although I’m optimistic that the weather will be a lovely fall day.”

Habitat South Georgian Bay’s mission is to provide simple, decent and affordable homes for lower-income families in our region.

This build is being made possible in part through support from the Township of Clearview, grants from Home Depot Collingwood and The Rotary Club of Wasaga Beach and generous donations from local companies for supplies and labour. Habitat will fund the remainder of the cost through donations from other community supporters, businesses, faith groups, schools and individuals. As with all projects, Habitat will also use volunteers and donations of materials and skilled labour to build the homes to help keep costs low.

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend, as this is a great opportunity to see what Habitat South Georgian Bay is all about, get more information on the project and how you can get involved, and also learn more about how Habitat impacts the community.

If you are interested in attending or want more information, please contact Habitat at 705-446-9542 or [email protected].
