As May is Mental Health Month, a network of Ontario yoga studios, including a Collingwood location, has started a low-cost, 21-day meditation, yoga and journaling initiative meant to help participants be kind to their mind.

Power Yoga Canada, which is an Ontario network of yoga studios with a Collingwood location, began their "Be Kind to Your Mind" mental health initiative on May 1, and it will continue over the next 21 days, offering daily meditation, journal prompts and a 60-minute yoga class.

“In any given year, one in five Canadians experiences a mental illness and by the time Canadians reach 40 years of age, one in two have – or have had – a mental illness,” said Pauline Caballero, co-founder of Power Yoga Studios, in a news release. “We live during a time when the pace of life is getting faster and the demands on our time and resources can make anyone feel out of balance. The ‘Be Kind to Your Mind’ initiative is designed to help create that balance.”

While the program has started, registration is still open for $25 per person. The program fee will be donated to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health womenmind initiative, which supports female scientists studying women's mental health.
