The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka invites residents to join in the spirit of generosity and community in honour of Planned Giving Month this May.

By making a planned or legacy gift to local charities, donors actively contribute to vital programs that foster personal development and inclusivity for future generations.

This month, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka celebrates the enduring impact and memory of Sterling McLeod, a pivotal figure whose remarkable leadership and commitment to community continues to inspire, and whose legacy lives on through his family.

The YMCA wishes to express its deep gratitude for the generous $25,000 donation made by McLeod's son, Scott McLeod, and wife, Grace McLeod, in Sterling’s honour.

The donation will actively enhance the capacity of the YMCA to continue offering empowering programs and initiatives aligned with the values cherished by Sterling McLeod during his lifetime.

Sterling McLeod's dedication to the YMCA traces back to his early years in Montreal, where he first joined the YMCA and was an avid basketball player. His family expressed that he was profoundly influenced by the YMCA's core values of community, inclusivity, and personal growth, shaping him into the extraordinary leader he became.

"My father's time with the YMCA was a defining chapter in his life," Scott McLeod said. "This donation is a small way to express our gratitude for the positive impact the YMCA has had on our family and to ensure that others can continue to benefit from its programs and services."

Scott's donation is a testament to the critical role such contributions have in supporting the YMCA's ongoing initiatives whilst fostering an environment where personal growth and inclusivity thrive.

CEO of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka, Jill Tettmann, expressed her gratitude. "Scott's dedication to honouring his father's legacy will have a lasting impact, enabling us to reach more individuals and continue fostering a community of growth. His family's legacy of leadership and generosity reflects a deep commitment to community values. Such donations not only provide crucial support for our ongoing programs, but also serve as a testament to the enduring impact of the YMCA."

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka encourages individuals to consider planning legacy gifts during their lifetime to charitable organizations, ensuring you'll continue supporting the causes close to you in the future. This proactive approach allows donors to witness the difference they are making in the lives of individuals and families across the region.
