Two Collingwood, two Wasaga COVID cases among 48 reported in region today

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 48 new cases of COVID-19 in the region today. 

Included on the Dec. 24 list of new COVID-19 cases are nine Barrie residents, two Collingwood resident, two Wasaga Beach resident, 10 Bradford West Gwillimbury residents, five Innisfil residents, and five Midland residents.

The health unit notes there is a lag in the data presented in the daily updates because of an increase in cases. 

The breakdown of cases provided by the health unit is as follows. All case transmissions are under investigation unless otherwise indicated: 

  • Collingwood (2): One man between 35 and 44 years old whose case is community-acquired. One woman between 65 and 79 years old. 
  • Wasaga Beach (2): One man between 35 and 44 years old whose case is community-acquired. One man between 65 and 79 years old. 
  • Barrie (9): A boy and a girl under 18, two women and two men between 18 and 34 years old, a man and a woman between 35 and 44 years old, and a woman between 45 and 64 years old. One case is community-acquired, two are linked to close contact with other cases, and two are part of an institutional outbreak.
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (10): One girl under 18, a woman and three men between 18 and 34 years old, a woman and two me between 35 and 44 years old and a man and a woman between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact. 
  • Innisfil (5): A man between 18 and 34 years old, a man between 35 and 44 years old, two men between 45 and 64 years old, and a woman over the age of 80. 
  • Midland (5): A man between 18 and 34 years old (close contact), a woman between 35 and 44 years old, two men between 45 and 64 years old and a man over the age of 80. 
  • Penetanguishene (1): A woman between 18 and 34 years old.
  • Springwater (1): A man between 35 and 44 years old whose case is linked to close contact.
  • Tiny (1): A man between 45 and 64 years old. 
  • There is one new case from Essa, and six from new Tecumseth. In Muskoka District there is a new case in Gravenhurst and Huntsville, and three new cases in Bracebridge.

The local health unit has now confirmed 3,201 cases of COVID-19 with 2,479 of those cases recovered and 60 cases ending in death. There are 623 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region, with the majority of those in Simcoe County.

There are at least 23 people from Simcoe County hospitalized. 

Two people are hospitalized with COVID-19 at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.

There have been 3,066 cases confirmed in just Simcoe County, with 2,371 of those now recovered and 59 deaths. 

The health unit will not be providing local COVID-19 case updates between Dec. 25 and Dec. 28. The next update will be posted Dec. 29.
