The town has given out $40,500 to local organizations for this year’s community recreation and culture grant program.

Karen Cubitt, the town’s manager of culture and events, announced the 13 recipients at a Corporate and Community Services standing committee on May 6.

There were 19 applications, but the grants committee only selected 13 of them, awarding seven grants of $1,500 and six of $5,000.

“2021 continues to be a challenging year for the recreation and culture activity providers in the community,” said Cubitt at the meeting. “I applaud both last year’s and this year’s grant recipients for their ingenuity, patience, and tenacity to continue finding ways to provide the programs that they do for our community.”

Though the town did have more grant money set aside for the 2021 awards, Cubitt said only the applications that scored 50 per cent or higher in the evaluation process were awarded grants this year.

The grants are intended to assist non-profit, charitable, or volunteer-based organizations or groups that operate in the Town of Collingwood. The grant money must be used to support intergenerational programs, active aging, youth involvement, learn-to programs. Live music, cultural innovation, and/or collaboration among groups and events.
