*************************
Snow squall watch in effect for:

  • Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale
  • Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake
  • Orillia - Lagoon City - Washago

Snow squalls expected this afternoon through Monday morning.

Hazards:
Total snowfall amounts of 20 to 30 cm by noon Monday.
Reduced visibility due to heavy snow and blowing snow.

Timing:
This afternoon through Monday morning.

Discussion:
Lake effect flurries and snow squalls are forecast to develop this afternoon and intensify this evening. These flurries and snow squalls are expected to continue into Monday morning before gradually tapering through the day.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. If you must travel, keep others informed of your schedule and destination and carry an emergency kit and mobile phone. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
